In 1922, the Stoneleigh Corporation was formed, and a well-planned residential community of prestigious homes was laid out. The original street plans took into consideration the natural contours of the land, and the towering Poplar, Maple, and Sycamore trees were preserved, and continue to line the streets over 80 years later.

Homes in Stoneleigh are an interesting blend of colonials and English country cottages. Houses vary in appearance and design, but still retain a sense of "community" in relation to the neighboring homes. The well landscaped gardens, towering trees, and stylish homes make Stoneleigh one of the most attractive neighborhoods in the Towson area. Many residents have improved their properties with additions and renovations, bringing the 1920s homes into the 21st century.

In late 2003, Stoneleigh was added to the National Register of Historic Places as an Historic District. Residents of the community are now eligible for tax incentives for approved renovations to their homes. The credits apply to Maryland State Income Tax. Residents do not have to follow the Historic renovations, but are given an option to conform to the guidelines and receive tax credits.

Living in Stoneleigh provides an ideal setting for recreational activities. Residents make use of the Stoneleigh Elementary School grounds, including baseball fields and playgrounds, and nearby tennis courts. Stoneleigh possesses its own community pool, which residents have the option of joining. The pool, nestled among the shady trees, plays an important role in the life of the community. It is the center of activity for most residents throughout the summer.

Stoneleigh's location is within easy reach of a number of shopping opportunities, ranging from retail and grocery stores to a variety of specialty stores. The Towson Town Center mall is within five minutes driving time. Greater Baltimore Medical Center, St. Joseph's Hospital, and Shepherd Pratt Hospital are also within five minutes driving time from the community. Its central location and convenience to downtown Baltimore make Stoneleigh an ever sought-after community.
